In this ruby, the filling material has a lower hardness compared to the surrounding ruby, This is evident from the rounded facet junction seen in the picture. Further test done with EDX analysis showed the existence of a element of Bismuth, which is not commonly used in the traditional glass filling process. Visible blue flashes in the fractures are unique feature seen in this type of filled rubies. |
